Mike Simpson is Real Deal Tyres. He bought Real Deal Tyres in August 2023 and set about building the business into the local, family-owned service it has become.

Mike has worked in the tyre industry for twenty-five years on the floor and in management roles previously. Mad keen on cars in his youth, he took the Northland Polytech pre-training automotive course and, on completion, found his place working in the tyre industry.

It kept him around cars, but over the years also made him an expert in tyres and wheel alignment, as well as how to efficiently operate a service-focused business. He has applied that quarter century of knowledge to Real Deal Tyres.

“It’s all about service and value,” he says. “Those are our key offerings”. Our customers enjoy a good experience and the best value when they need tyres because we keep pricing very competitive and deliver excellent personal service. People feel they’ve been looked after and that we’ve been honest. “The most expensive tyres aren’t necessarily the best.”

Mike is on the Real Deal Tyres desk every day talking to people. He says, “It’s a great industry to be in. It provides a good combination of physical work and customer relationships.”

Tyre technology has evolved vastly over the last 25 years, our main brands, GT Radial and Falken, have kept pace, however we also offer most major brands which we can source quickly for our customers.

Mike’s offsider is Ethen Clayton, who has several years of experience in tyre workshops behind him. Like Mike, he’s a car enthusiast with a passion for his work. Fleur Gunn is a full-time Mum, part time marketing manager, so helps out when she can with her expertise in advertising and marketing.

Mike’s not sure what spare time is, but when he gets it, he’s that outdoors person; a runner, mountain biker, fisherman, diver, hunter, and… of course, cars and a passion for quality tyres with which to fit them.
